Maserati has introduced two new Special Series vehicles based on the MC20, the Icona and Leggenda. Both are inspired by one of Maserati’s greatest hits and celebrate the marque’s 20th anniversary of its return to motorsports with the MC12.


Both the Icona and Leggenda are limited to 20 units each. The former is inspired by the road-going MC12 Stradale, and the latter by the MC12 GT1 Vitaphone racer. The Icona wears the iconic Bianco Audace Matte and Blu Stradale livery, with additional details from the Fuoriserie Personalization Program. The Fuoriserie logo, found near the rear wheels, has been picked out in Bianco Audace, while the Italian flag can be found on the door under the MC20 badging.

Inspired By The Inimitable MC12

The MC20 is produced in Italy, so unlike certain Italian Stellantis cars, it is legally allowed to wear the Italian Tricolore. Initially worn by the 2004 MC12 Stradale, the two-tone paint scheme is a tribute to the Maserati Birdcage Type 61, a fixture on ’60s racetracks. The elegant wheel design benefits from Trident logos in contrasting blue. Behind them, you’ll find blue brake calipers. Lastly, the engine cover is fashioned out of carbon fiber.

If you want a sportier look, the Leggenda has a vibrant Nero Essenza and Digital Mint Matte finish that harks back to the MC12 GT1 that the Vitaphone Racing team fielded in 2004, where it finished as the runner-up at the 24 Hours of Spa. Fuoriserie details include Trident wheels in a unique Nero Lucido finish with hubcaps finished in Opaco and Trident Digital Mint. The brake calipers are black, while the Trident logos on the doors, C-pillar, and grille have been painted yellow.


Special Touches For The Interior

Both special series models receive racing interiors with assistance from the automaker’s in-house bespoke department, starting with lightweight, four-way monocoque racing seats. The Icona’s central section is upholstered in Nero/Blu, while the Leggenda gets Nero on a silver background. Depending on the model, the headrests receive ‘Icona’ or ‘Leggenda’ embroidery and the Maserati trident badge. The special edition names are also on the carbon fiber engine covers, with ‘Icona. Una Di 20’ and ‘Leggenda. Una Di 20’ badging.

The difference isn’t much, but their production dates are nearly two decades apart.

The Icona and Leggenda MC20 models also receive several other special touches, heightening the luxury experience. Upgrades include a carbon fiber interior package, a Sonus Faber sound system, and a front suspension lift system. Additionally, there are blind-spot and rear cross-traffic detection systems and an electronic limited-slip differential. As a reminder, the MC20 is powered by the 3.0-liter Nettuno V6 that produces 621 horsepower. The supercar accelerates from 0-60 mph in less than 2.9 seconds and has a top speed of 202 mph. That’s impressive, considering the V12-powered MC12 needed 3.6 seconds to hit 60 mph and only had a slightly higher top whack of 205 mph. Still, the MC12 can’t be beaten on the Nürburgring, where the old boy is faster than the young upstart.
