2025 Audi RS Q6 e-tron Will Be Brilliant Without Copying Porsche's Homework

Key Takeaways

  • Audi RS Q6 e-tron is coming in 2025 with more than 620 horsepower and distinctive styling.
  • The RS Q6 e-tron will be more comfort-oriented than the Macan Turbo.
  • Likely to be offered in SUV and Sportback body styles.

Earlier this year, Audi introduced the all-new Q6 e-tron and SQ6 e-tron, with the latter producing up to 510 hp. But there’s room for another model, with the Ingolstadt-based brand planning to introduce a hardcore RS Q6 e-tron in 2025.

An Audi insider shared with Autocar that the RS Q6 e-tron will be “significantly different” from the SQ6, suggesting that the upcoming model will be a serious electric performance SUV. Whereas the SQ6 produces 483 hp (510 hp with launch control), the RS Q6 is tipped to get the Macan Turbo’s electric drivetrain. This means we can expect more than 620 hp and up to 833 lb-ft of torque.

Strong Performance Is Guaranteed

In the Porsche, 0-60 mph comes up in 3.1 seconds, while the top speed is limited to 161 mph. We suspect the RS Q6 e-tron won’t be as powerful or as quick, but it will certainly come close. Due to its elevated status, it’s likely the Macan will have more power than its Audi-badged cousin; it would be bad business for the VW group if the more affordable Audi were superior in the performance department.

However, performance won’t be the only way the Audi and Porsche will differ from each other. Even though it’s an RS model, it will emphasize comfort more than its Porsche-badged twin, which positions it as the more user-friendly of the two SUVs. The Q6 e-tron is an imposing machine, but the RS will turn things up considerably, with performance-minded styling cues mirroring those found on the menacing RS6 and RS e-tron GT performance. We can expect unique interior touches, too.

What Else Can We Expect?

Range and battery estimates will only be announced once the vehicle is launched, but we expect it to use the same 100 kWh battery pack as the Macan EV and the standard Q6 and SQ6 e-tron models. Thanks to the Premium Platform Electric 800-volt architecture, we anticipate the RS Q6 will be able to charge at speeds of up to 270 kW. In the Macan EV, the battery can charge from 10-80% in just 21 minutes (in ideal conditions).

The new electric GT is part of a three-car lineup that has received upgraded suspension, styling, technology, and a lighter battery.

Audi has been working on the RS Q6 e-tron for quite some time, with spy shots regularly arriving in our inbox. The RS Q6 e-tron will likely be offered in SUV and coupe-style Sportback body styles, which will broaden customer appeal. Aside from performance-minded seats (likely trimmed in high-end leather and Alcantara) and RS-specific touches, we expect the interior to share its architecture with the base Q6. A reveal date is yet to be provided, but the RS Q6 e-tron may debut in early 2025 with a price tag of $90,000-$100,000.
