Driving is one of those activities where one has to be extremely careful, not just about their vehicle but also about things happening on the road. If you follow defensive driving techniques and stay alert, you reduce the risks of accidents. However, accidents do happen on a daily basis. In most cases, accidents happen due to carelessness. Here we have one such video where a distracted Mahindra Scorpio driver jumped the SUV over the divider.
The video was shared by Prateek Singh on his YouTube channel. It appears the video was sent to him by one of his subscribers. The video was recorded on the dashcam of the Mahindra Scorpio involved in the accident. In this video, the Scorpio driver and his friends were traveling towards Pune from Ahilyanagar.
We see that the SUV was passing through winding roads on a ghat section. The elevation kept changing, and it looks like the SUV driver was distracted by the occupants in the SUV. If you check the video, you can see that the SUV was not being driven at a high speed or in a rash manner. The driver was maintaining a speed of around 60 km/h on the four-lane highway.
The SUV then started rolling down a sloped section of the road, and halfway through the slope, there was a left turn. The driver was probably distracted and didn’t notice the curve. His Mahindra Scorpio crashed into the divider and went airborne. The SUV jumped the divider and crossed to the other side of the road.
Luckily for the driver, there were not many vehicles coming from the opposite direction. The SUV jumped the divider and went to the opposite side of the road. It appears the occupants in the SUV were not injured in this minor accident. Things would have been different if the SUV had crashed into any other vehicle coming from the opposite direction.
If you look at the video carefully, there was a biker on the opposite lane when the Scorpio jumped the divider. The biker missed the SUV by a few seconds. Just behind the biker was a Maruti Dzire sedan. The cab also missed crashing into the SUV by a very small margin. If the SUV had been moving any faster, it would have easily taken the biker and the car driver with it.
Fortunately, the SUV was not on the left side of the road, where there is a steep drop. The video mentions that the driver of the Mahindra Scorpio failed to notice the curve in the road.
We usually see such accidents happen at night when highways are not well lit and people driving for the first time on such highways get confused. However, this happened in broad daylight, showing how distracted the driver was.
This video is a good example of why it is necessary to stay attentive and alert while driving. The Scorpio could have caused a major accident on the ghat section if it had hit the biker and the cab driver who had nothing to do with this crash.
