Mahindra Thar owner Parminder Singh shared his experience on the internet. He wrote on Twitter, now X, “Okay, sold my Thar, haven’t driven even 500 kms. It was a bad decision but rectified within a month. The only perk is your self-esteem is boosted while driving it; couldn’t find any other benefit. Parents were unhappy too. There’s zero boot space, three doors are a nightmare for those sitting in the back—they feel jailed. I hope the 5-door Thar will do some justice to them.”
The owner mentions in the comments section that the Mahindra Thar was suggested to him by someone, and he never actually took a test drive. He called up a few dealerships, and the SUV was delivered to him at home.
He went on to say that he owns a Royal Enfield too, and that rides better than the Mahindra Thar. He mentions that even his mother liked the Royal Enfield so much that she didn’t even come out to check his new Thar SUV. This is a serious mistake—not taking test drives and realizing what you are actually getting into. In this case, we feel the owner is to blame.
Before finalizing any vehicle, a test drive is an absolute must. The Mahindra Thar is a lifestyle SUV and is not meant to be a comfortable SUV. The owner would have realized this easily if he had taken a test drive. Always drive the car through different sections like smooth roads, broken tarmac, and if possible, off-road, to check if it suits your needs.
If you are not happy with a vehicle’s ride quality and comfort and it is not offering what you were looking for, never buy it. Comparing a motorcycle with the Mahindra Thar is not ideal, as they are entirely different from each other. He owns a Royal Enfield Bullet or Classic, which is a cruiser motorcycle with a comfortable suspension setup. This is why Parminder’s mother likes the Bullet over the Thar.
The Thar’s ride, with its short wheelbase and cramped cabin, is too harsh or rough, and with the close-set windows and no boot space, it cannot be your primary car or family car.
