Joy Alukkas is the chairman and managing director of the Joyalukkas Group. Joyalukkas is one of the renowned jewelry groups from India. He owns several expensive and luxury cars, including a Rolls-Royce Cullinan that he bought this year. In a recent interview, Mr. Alukkas shared an experience where he once felt insulted by a staff member at a Rolls-Royce dealership and how it led him to actually buy a Rolls-Royce.
The video has been shared by CNBC-TV18 on their YouTube channel. In this video, we see Mr. Joy Alukkas talk about the Rolls-Royce incident. Mr. Alukkas mentions that back in the year 2000, he visited a Rolls-Royce dealership in Dubai. When he entered the dealership, he was asked about the reason for his visit, and when he told them that he was interested in the car and wanted to check it out, the staff’s reaction was unexpected.
Indians owning a Rolls-Royce is a common thing now, but in the 2000s, it was uncommon, and that was probably the reason why the salesperson asked Mr. Alukkas to leave the dealership and go look at cars from a Mitsubishi dealership nearby. Mr. Alukkas did feel insulted, and that provoked him to buy the very same car.
After buying the car, he realized that he knew nothing about it and didn’t actually need it. He was not using the car and started thinking of ways to utilize this Rolls-Royce to build his brand. That is when the idea of a raffle came to his mind. Raffle draws have been extremely popular in the UAE, and customers often receive expensive gifts in such draws.

The Joyalukkas Group decided to conduct a raffle draw, and the grand prize of this draw was the Rolls-Royce. In fact, Joy Alukkas was one of the first jewelers in the UAE to offer a Rolls-Royce car to its customers as a gift. This was a brilliant marketing move and helped make the jeweler popular in the region.
We tried looking for pictures of the Rolls-Royce that Joy Alukkas bought, but we couldn’t find any. However, upon checking, we found that the jeweler had gifted a Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph luxury sedan to the customer. Since then, Joyalukkas has conducted several raffle draws and used them to promote their brand successfully many times.
The Silver Seraph was the flagship sedan from Rolls-Royce before the Phantom. It was available for sale for a very short span of time. The Seraph was powered by a 5.4-liter V12 engine mated to an automatic transmission.
He has owned several luxury cars since then, including a Rolls-Royce Ghost Series I. In addition, he recently bought a brand new Rolls-Royce Cullinan. The Rolls-Royce Cullinan SUV is powered by a 6.75-liter twin-turbocharged petrol engine that generates 569 bhp and 850 Nm of peak torque.
The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Just like any other Rolls-Royce model, the Cullinan is designed to offer the utmost comfort to its occupants. The price for a brand new standard Rolls-Royce Cullinan SUV starts at Rs 6.95 crore, ex-showroom.
