Tesla removes a key perk from its subscription service

Tesla has announced it’s started to remove complimentary Spotify subscriptions from its own monthly subscription service in a number of major markets, including Australia.

Model Ys and Model 3s delivered from October 1, 2024 no longer include a Spotify Premium account as part of Tesla’s $9.99 per month Premium Connectivity subscription.

For Tesla owners who took delivery of their vehicle before October 1, 2024, the complimentary Spotify Premium subscription will continue to be included with their Premium Connectivity subscription until December 1, 2024.

However, there’s an exception for Tesla vehicles delivered on or before June 30, 2019, which received a lifetime Premium Connectivity service that’ll continue to include the complimentary Spotify Premium account – at least until the vehicle’s hardware can no longer support it.

Tesla owners who purchased their vehicles between July 1, 2019 and September 30, 2024 will soon be required to log in to the music streaming service with their personal Spotify account.

Alternatively, you can retain the car’s Spotify account by updating the account information with your personal email, though this can only be performed on vehicles with the 2024.32.4 software update.

There is a free Spotify plan but it has limited features and includes advertisements between songs, while Spotify Premium subscription currently costs $13.99 per month for individuals, while cheaper student, duo and family options are available.

There are additional features in Tesla’s Premium Connectivity subscription beyond the now-gone Spotify Premium.

It enables access to navigation with life traffic visualisation and satellite-view maps, video and music streaming, an internet browser, and ‘Caraoke’.

In addition to Spotify, Tesla vehicles can currently stream Apple Music and YouTube Music with a Premium Connectivity subscription when logged in via the owner’s personal account.
