Mahindra Thar Roxx was one of the most anticipated launches from Mahindra this year. The SUV received an overwhelming response from customers. We have seen instances where cars have received bookings in the thousands on the first day after the bookings opened. However, in the case of Thar Roxx, Mahindra received over 1.7 lakh bookings in just one hour after the bookings commenced. Deliveries for the Thar Roxx have also started, and many owners have even begun modifying them. Here we have a video that showcases a unique feature in the 4×4 variant of Thar Roxx. It is called Smart Crawl, and the video shows how it helps while off-roading.

The video has been shared by Dhanush Sivadas on Instagram. The Smart Crawl feature is similar to the recovery mode in the much more expensive Mercedes GLS SUV. In this video, we see a Mahindra Thar Roxx stuck on an extremely sandy track. The front and rear wheels of the SUV got stuck in the loose sand, and driver inputs were only making things worse.
We can see that despite engaging 4×4, the SUV was not performing well. Only the top-end variant comes with this feature. The Smart Crawl feature in the Thar Roxx can be activated with the push of a button. In this video, we see that the driver takes his foot off the pedals and lets the car do the job on its own.
As the name suggests, the crawl feature on the Thar Roxx recovers the vehicle from tricky situations. This feature also helps the SUV crawl up tricky surfaces without any input from the driver. This is a feature typically seen on expensive SUVs. To simplify things, it works like cruise control for difficult terrains, where the speed of the SUV can be locked anywhere between 2.5 km/h to 30 km/h.
The traction control on the Thar Roxx works with the Smart Crawl system to detect the wheels that are free to move and helps pull the vehicle out.
When a driver gives manual inputs, they are not always even, which can make things tricky and cause the vehicle to get stuck. However, in this case, the system sends power to all four wheels evenly and smoothly pulls the vehicle out.
This feature is extremely helpful for drivers who are not very experienced at off-roading and get stuck at an obstacle without any backup. Mahindra is also offering an Intelli-turn feature with the Thar Roxx 4×4, which reduces the vehicle’s turning radius by locking the inner rear wheel while turning.
Mahindra Thar Roxx is available with both petrol and diesel engine options. Only the diesel version is offered with the 4×4 system. The diesel version of the SUV is powered by a 2.2-litre turbocharged mHawk engine.
The petrol version of the SUV is powered by a 2.0-litre mStallion turbocharged engine. Both petrol and diesel engine options are available with ADAS, and manual and automatic transmission options. The price for the Thar Roxx starts at Rs 12.99 lakh ex-showroom and goes up to Rs 22.49 lakh ex-showroom.
