Stock Eliminator Greatness: Running 10s in a 1968 Mustang Coupe with NA Power Using Mostly 1968 Parts!


Stock Eliminator is a class of NHRA Drag Racing that is near and dear to my heart, because that is what I grew up with my dad racing. He ran his 1968 Z28 Camaro in F/Stock. When you see the class designations on the car, they are shown as F/S if it is in Stock class, and F/SA if it is in the Stock Automatic class. So the Mustang in this feature video is a C/SA car that features a 390 and a C6 transmission, and it just flat hauls ass.

Stock Eliminator cars are required to use stock engine components, or NHRA approved replacements, and have very limited performance enhancements. The camshaft for example, cannot exceed factory lift specs, but can have any LSA, Duration, etc. The carburetor must be the stock carburetor that came with the combination and can have very few real modifications. Over the years, with 1960’s parts getting harder and harder to find, they have allowed other aftermarket replacements, and some of them are superior to factory parts. But they are certainly not the kind of parts most people would choose to make big power.

And yet these guys and gals are able to make enough power, and use gear ratios, converters, etc to put it to the ground, so as to run ETs that people usually don’t think is possible. But it is.
