Imagine you’re navigating peacefully through the busy city traffic and an Audi car pops up from nowhere. Within the blink of an eye, you hear metals banging with each other. In another second or two, you feel the Audi ram into your vehicle, leaving you shocked by the impact. This nightmare recently came true in Ahmedabad as an intoxicated driver unleashed havoc during peak traffic hours, ramming multiple vehicles with his Black Audi sedan.

The Audi driver, identified as Ripal Panchal, was seen driving recklessly on the Ambli-Bopal Road, hitting multiple vehicles, people and objects. The entire action left behind a trail of destruction, and horrified the onlookers. Eyewitnesses say that the rampage began with the Audi hitting a Tata Harrier near the ISKCON Bridge. This, however, did not perplex or distract the driver, and he continued to ram into more vehicles as if he had taken the contemptuous act as a sport!
He then brutally rammed into a three-wheeler and another car. Further, he hit a Tata Nexon near a Tata dealership. The rampage continued till when the vehicle hit a barricade and came to a complete stop.
Even after this, the driver remained calm and nonchalant about his deeds and the mess it had created. He was seen smoking a cigarette as if he were the anti-hero in some Bollywood action movie. Angered by this sheer audacity and provoked by the damage he had caused to the vehicles and people around, the onlookers pulled Ripal out of his car and thrashed him before handing over to the cops.
Witnesses say that the Audi driver was drunk and out of his senses when he was being manhandled by the enraged crowd. The M division traffic police have booked Ripal and have initiated a probe to find out his intoxication levels and other aspects of the accident. The accused is known to be a resident of Thaltej.
Ripal remained alarmingly composed even after all the commotion he had created. He even kept his statement to the media short and sweet saying ‘ My lawyer will answer’. This shows how aggressive and senseless some people can get if they have money and power. Such ‘Rajagiri’ isn’t too uncommon in many parts of our country.
Ronica Patil, the victim who was driving the Tata Nexon that Panchal hit with his Audi later said in a statement “I was on my way to the office when the Audi hit my car, causing me to lose control and crash into the divider. The driver appeared so drunk that he was oblivious to the damage he had caused. After the crash, he sat in the car smoking and then attempted to drive further, colliding with more vehicles.”
Another victim and onlooker told the media “I had parked my outside Tata Motors when I heard the noise of the accident. When I rushed towards the spot, the Audi driver was dragging the Nexon car to the divider and finally collided with the barricades outside the showroom. The driver was highly intoxicated.”
CCTV visuals showing the Audi’s reckless driving and the havoc it unleashed are now out, and are indeed horrifying. None of us would ever want a guy like him on our roads! Many including us are waiting to see how the investigation would unfold, and what punishment the accused would get when proved guilty before the court. Hazardous driving behaviours such as this, need to be addressed seriously and controlled without a second thought, as the same is potent enough to make people lose their lives and families. You can replace a bumper, but not your family member!
