While we have seen videos of people driving and doing stunts with their vehicles on beaches, it should be noted that doing so is illegal. Driving on beaches in India is illegal, which is why we often come across reports where cops take action against the owners. However, there is an exception when it comes to Kerala’s Muzhappilangad Beach. It is India’s only drive-in beach and also happens to be the longest drive-in beach in Asia. This beach is currently undergoing some renovation work and will be open to the public soon.

The video has been shared by Indian Tech & Infra on X. The video features the current Tourism and PWD Minister of Kerala, Muhammad Riyas. In this video, he is walking through a newly built section of Muzhappilangad Beach. The new addition is part of the government’s beach development project, which has been undertaken to promote tourism in the area.

Muzhappilangad is a very popular beach in North Kerala as it allows people to drive on the beach. This is, in fact, the only beach where you can drive legally.

As part of the development, several kiosks have been set up along with a food court and other basic amenities for visitors. We also see a proper pavement where people can actually enjoy their evening walks.

We feel this has been done in such a manner that motorists who are interested in driving on the beach can continue to do so without disturbing those who are walking. The video mentions that the project will be finished by the end of this year and will be open to the public by New Year 2025.

We have seen such developments take place in Western countries. In India, however, we feel it is an unexplored area. Muzhappilangad Beach has been featured in our stories many times. It is a very special beach because it stretches across 4 kilometers in length. People can drive next to the beach on this stretch.

The newly constructed section on the beach doesn’t seem to interfere with the movement of cars. We have an aerial view of the whole area, but we are not sure which part of the beach it is situated on. The surface is sturdy, which allows people to drive on the beach without any difficulty.

If you are driving on any other beach, the sand is very loose, which makes things extremely difficult. Even if you own a 4×4 SUV, the vehicle could get stuck if you don’t have the right skills. Many beaches in India, especially in Goa and Odisha, are protected as they are breeding grounds for turtles and other sea creatures.

If you ever take your car onto a beach, there are a few things you should keep in mind. Never drive too close to the water. The chances of your SUV getting stuck on soft sand are pretty high. Reduce the tire pressure and also get your car washed after getting back on the road, as saltwater leads to corrosion and reduces the life of metal parts and panels on your vehicle.
