The standard specification is generous. Dual-zone climate control, BMW Navigation, Parking Assistant, and a rearview camera are all part of the package, including a range of driver-assist systems. Also included is the updated BMW iDrive system with the new Operating System 9. Infotainment and navigation functions are controlled via the 10.7-inch Control Display touchscreen. There’s also a 10.25-inch Information Display.
BMW says the iX1 eDrive20 will be priced from €47,900 (approximately $51,500). That’s about the same price as the high-performance M35i. Remember, European prices are traditionally higher than American prices, so if the eDrive20 was sold in the USA, we could expect it to be even more affordable.
Sadly, the BMW iX1 isn’t coming to America. We think that’s a grave mistake, as there’s a market for compact premium electric vehicles here. The eDrive20 may not appeal to power-crazed Americans, but perhaps the 309-hp iX1 xDrive30 would cut the mustard.
