BMW’s Group Plant Munich facility is gearing up for significant changes in the coming years, with the Neue Klasse sedan primed to roll down its production lines from 2026. Just a year later, the factory will transition to building electric vehicles only.
This marks the end of an era, as Plant Munich first assembled combustion-powered cars more than 70 years ago, starting with the BMW 501 in 1952. These days, the factory spews out approximately 1,000 vehicles a day, such as the 3 Series Sedan and the all-electric i4 Gran Coupe.
The facility has always been a trailblazing BMW factory. In 2015, it started producing the first plug-in hybrid 3 Series models. Three years ago, the i4 became the first EV to be built at the site. As demand for BMW electric vehicles surges, every second vehicle off the Plant Munich line is powered by electricity.
