Bollywood actress and Bigg Boss 9 contestant Rimi Sen has come forward to sue a car manufacturer after facing multiple issues with her vehicle. The actress has now filed a complaint, and a notice has been sent to Navnit Motors, Jaguar Land Rover, and Satish Motors. She filed the complaint after becoming frustrated with the recurring issues with the car. The actress is suing the car manufacturer for ₹50 crore.
The actress has been away from the movie screen for some time. Her name has now surfaced on the internet due to this case. We attempted to find images of the car that Rimi Sen reportedly purchased, but we couldn’t find any, except for this video. In the video, we see the actress arriving at an event in a blue Range Rover Sport (previous generation).
We assume that this is the same car that has been causing trouble for the actress. Rimi Sen’s actual name is Subhamitra Sen, and the legal notice has been sent under this name. The complaint filed by the actress states, “Around 25th August 2022, the Complainant bumped the said Car into a pillar from the rear end due to the rear camera not working properly again. The Opposite Party No. 1 has been nothing but ignorant, discourteous, and ill-mannered towards the problems of the Complainant.”
The actress also mentioned in her complaint that ever since she bought this luxury SUV, the dealership has taken the car in for repairs more than 10 times. However, even after so many visits to the service center, the issues persist.
Frustrated with the vehicle, the actress has now sent a legal notice to the dealership and the manufacturer, seeking ₹50 crore as compensation for mental harassment. The complaint also seeks an additional ₹10 lakh to cover legal costs.
Speaking to Times of India, Rimi Sen said, “I was absolutely disappointed with the car company and its services. The worst part was their attitude towards their customers. I bumped into a pillar, but it easily could have been a human being. No amount of money or anything else could have saved someone’s life.”
“Their negligence could have cost someone’s life. It was life-threatening. I could have easily been in a fatal accident. I have demanded ₹50 crore as compensation, and I absolutely deserve it for all the trauma I endured. I hope I get justice. My lawyers, Pushpa Ganediwala & Company, are handling the case.”
The car seen in the video is a 2020 model Range Rover SUV. We ran the registration number online and found that this is the petrol version. The SUV was available with a 2.0-liter petrol, a 3.0-liter petrol, and a 5.0-liter petrol engine. The 2.0-liter variant generated 296 Bhp and 650 Nm of peak torque.
The 3.0-liter turbo engine generated 335 Bhp and 450 Nm of peak torque. The 5.0-liter variant used a supercharged engine that generated 567 Bhp and 700 Nm of peak torque. Prices for a Range Rover SUV in 2020 started at ₹91.27 lakh, ex-showroom, and went up to ₹2.19 crore, ex-showroom. Range Rover also offered a diesel engine with the Sport.
This is not the first time a luxury car manufacturer has faced such trouble. Few months ago, Supreme Court of India asked Mercedes-Benz to refund or replace cars sold with defects. The apex court upheld the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) decision to grant relief to two companies that encountered issues after buying the luxury car. It remains to be seen whether the court will rule in favor of the actress or ask the company to simply replace the car.
