The German car manufacturing brand Volkswagen is quite popular in India. Their Polo hatchback, available for sale in India, was extremely popular among buyers. We have undertaken several modification projects based on this popular hatchback in the past. It was a fun-to-drive car in this segment, and even after being discontinued from the market, the Polo still has a large fan base in India. These vehicles are not only modification-friendly but also very safe. It was actually one of the first vehicles to receive a 4-star safety rating from Global NCAP. Here, we have an incident from Gujarat where a Polo saved its occupants even after a container truck fell on it.
The video has been shared by Prateek Singh on his YouTube channel. The video was shared with him by a subscriber from Gujarat. It is not clear whether the subscriber was the same person who was in the car. According to the video, the accident took place on a highway in Gujarat’s Rajkot. According to the details shared in the video, a truck carrying a container lost control and crashed into a Volkswagen Polo hatchback. The exact reason for this accident is not known.
It appears that the Volkswagen Polo was passing through the opposite lane when this accident occurred. We still cannot confirm whether it was the truck or the Polo that caused this accident. The truck is not seen in the pictures. What we can see here is just a container resting on the roof of the Polo hatchback. The metal container is extremely heavy, and it is not clear whether it was loaded at the time of the accident or not. It doesn’t actually matter whether the container was empty or not because the Volkswagen Polo handled the situation quite well. We can see that the container is actually resting on the roof of the car, and the suspension is completely collapsed.
The roof of the car and the pillars look intact, and to our surprise, even the front windshield and windows have not received any damage. The front end of the hatchback does have some damage. The front bumper, bonnet, and left headlight are all damaged or missing. The rear bumper is also damaged. It appears that the rear windshield of the car was damaged as the container fell on the rear section of the car. The video mentions that the occupants in the car safely escaped with some minor injuries. It does not provide a clear picture of the number of people who were present in the car at the time of the accident. We hope that the truck driver has also escaped without major injuries.
The shell of the Volkswagen Polo remains intact, which is probably the main reason why the passengers escaped. This is not the first time we have come across an accident like this. A few weeks ago, a loaded container truck fell on a Mahindra XUV700 and crushed the roof. The passengers in the XUV700 also emerged from the vehicle safely.
