Sometimes, some people, such as the dad and son being talked about in this article, decide to spice it up further by doing crazy-yet-sweet things. The iconic delivery took place at Ravindu Toyota, Bengaluru. Mr.Raveendra Gowda and family arrived in style, in two Innovas and a Glanza. The dad and son are then seen doing the paperwork, and finally waiting for their newly bought Toyotas- a White Fortuner and Hyryder. The happy family is seen celebrating the purchase by sharing sweets.
The dad and son, both dressed in Black trousers and a White shirt, then unveil their new buys and pose for photographs with them. The Fortuner here has a 2.8L diesel engine and is based on the Hilux platform. It comes with 4×4 hardware. There is also a petrol engine available on the SUV.
The offroad tech and hardware on the Fortuner include Rear Differential Lock, Active Traction Control (A-TRC), Limited Slip Differential (LSD), Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC), off-road spec suspension and Downhill Assist Control (DAC). Both a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission options are available on the Fortuner, out of which the dad here seems to have bought the latter.
The Fortuner is quite popular among the affluent and is often regarded as a symbol of success and power. The SUV has stood the test of time, with no major changes over the past few years, except for a few hand-picked special editions like the Leader edition.
Gowda’s son bought himself the Urban Cruiser Hyryder. There are three engine options available on the Hyryder in India- 1.5L 4-cylinder petrol, 1.5L 4-cylinder CNG, and 1.5L 3-cylinder petrol hybrid. The strong hybrid variants offer commendable fuel efficiencies.
The Hyryder is a five-seater SUV that packs ample space and features on the inside. It comes with the likes of electric folding wing mirrors, a 4.2-inch TFT display in the instrument cluster, a front sliding armrest, a tilt and telescopic steering wheel, auto AC, rear AC vents, reclining rear seats, keyless entry and go etc.
The safety equipment includes dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, vehicle stability control (VSC), hill-hold control, rear parking sensors etc. Toyota has a black and brown interior theme for the strong hybrid variant, while the mild-hybrid models come with an all-black interior theme. It thus appears to be the Strong hybrid that the son here, has bought.
Upcoming Updates To The Fortuner And Hyryder
One of the upcoming Toyota vehicles in India could be the Fortuner MHEV. Like the Hilux MHEV, it could be powered by the 2.8-litre diesel engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system. This hybrid setup adds extra 16hp and 42Nm, bringing the total output to 201hp and 500Nm.
Toyota claims the Fortuner MHEV to be 5% more fuel-efficient than the standard 2.8 diesel version. It will come with a 6-speed automatic gearbox and offers both 2WD and 4WD configurations. The new idle start-stop feature will also help improve throttle response and engine restarts for smoother driving.
The MHEV will also include the Toyota Safety Sense ADAS suite and a 360-degree camera, along with minor interior cosmetic updates. It remains to be seen when the MHEV will come to India.
Toyota is also working on a seven-seater version of the Hyryder. The three-row SUV will come with a thoroughly reworked design, and a significantly longer wheelbase. The cabin will have more features and space. The vehicle will mostly retain the five-seater Hyryder’s powertrains.
