Car buyers in India have now become more aware of the importance of safety features and build quality in cars. According to the new safety regulations in India, car manufacturers are required to include safety features like dual airbags, reverse parking sensors, seat belt reminders, and ABS as standard in all variants. All cars currently being sold in the market comply with these regulations. However, despite these measures, there are still reports of accidents resulting in fatalities. One such recent incident that many may recall is the tragic accident involving Cyrus Mistry, the former chairman of Tata Sons, and his friend. Both of them lost their lives in the accident only because they were not wearing seat belts while seated in the rear seat. Although the vehicle was equipped with curtain airbags, they were not able to provide protection in this case. Most cars are equipped with SRS airbags that are designed to work in conjunction with three-point seat belts. Failure to wear seat belts can compromise the effectiveness of the airbags. We have a video that shows how quickly an airbag opens and also how it would affect you if you don’t wear a seat belt.

The video has been uploaded by Mr. Indian Hacker on their YouTube channel. In this video, the vlogger conducts an experiment with a car airbag to demonstrate its power and speed of deployment. He removes the airbag from a Maruti car and attaches a piece of cable to it to trigger the sensor.

After placing the airbag at a safe distance, they connect the cables to trigger the airbag. The entire inflation process takes just a fraction of a second. The airbag is placed simply on a bucket with nothing else to hold it in place. When it deploys, the airbag is sent up in the air.

The airbag on the steering wheel is typically located beneath the horn pad, which is made of thin plastic. This design ensures that the airbag can easily tear through the plastic when it opens, providing protection for the driver or other occupants.

The airbag undergoes an explosion internally, causing it to expand. This explosion is a result of a chemical reaction, with the chemical Sodium Azide used inside the airbag.

The sensor at the front of the car sends electrical signals to the igniter. The heat produced during this reaction causes Sodium Azide to decompose into sodium metal and nitrogen gas, which inflates the airbag. This entire process occurs rapidly, as demonstrated in the video.

This video is a great example to prove how an airbag can save your life and also cause you injury if you are careless.

It also shows how important it is to wear a seatbelt irrespective of where you are seated. In many modern cars, the airbags won’t deploy or will get delayed if you don’t wear seat belts.

This causes serious injuries to a person in case of an accident. The airbag opens with so much force that it can cause injuries to your head or some other part.
