Wild elephants leaving the jungle and destroying crops have become much more common lately. In the southern part of India, we have encountered many such animal and human conflicts. There have even been cases where wild animals like elephants have killed people and destroyed vehicles and properties. A recent video from Hassan in Karnataka shows a wild elephant charging towards a man who was working in a farm. The man somehow ran away from the elephant and hid under a parked car to escape.
The video has been shared by Asianet Suvarna News on their YouTube channel. The video was recorded on the CCTV camera installed outside a house facing the farm. In the video, we see a wild elephant running through the areca palm plantation. The elephant is actually charging towards a man who was working in the farm. The man was completely unaware of the danger until the elephant was very close.
As soon as he saw the animal, he started running. Instead of running in front of the animal, the man moved to the side and escaped. Elephants can run in straight lines, but they cannot change direction fast like other animals.
The man probably knew this. He narrowly escaped getting crushed by the elephant. The danger was not over yet; he ran for his safety and tried to take shelter in the house where he was working.

It looks like there was no one in the house, and the doors were locked. He saw a car parked in front of the house and decided to get under the car and hide away from the elephant. The person got under the car and decided to stay there until it was safe.
We see another man running to the same spot. After waiting for the animal to go away for some time, he came out. The man was extremely lucky to have escaped with no injuries at all.
However, hiding under the car was not the best way to escape an attack from a wild elephant. These creatures have an extremely great sense of smell, and they can easily track you if you try to hide. The elephant can easily overturn the car if it wanted to. It looks like the wild elephant had no intentions to do so in this case.
Not the first case

This is not the first time we have come across an incident like this from South India. A few weeks ago, we saw a video from Kerala’s Muthanga, where men trying to take a picture of a wild elephant narrowly escaped from being crushed by the animal.
The men were trying to take a selfie with a wild elephant that was standing on the other side of the road when it decided to charge. One of the men fell on the road while trying to run away from the elephant. The elephant did try to crush the man, but he was lucky enough to have escaped and roll away from the animal.
