Freiburger Is DRAG TESTING The 1995-Throwback Crusher Camaro. What Will This Current Small Block Combo Run?
The Crusher Camaro is one of the more famous magazine project cars, and has been part of Freiburger’s personal fleet for decades. I’ve been lucky enough to work on this thing for a few of it’s iterations and can tell you that it is a fun car that has had a storied life. It is one of Freiburger’s most asked about rides and in the video below he is doing some dragstrip testing with it and sharing the results with all of you. The last time I raced this car it had a 383 GM crate engine in it, but when we swapped it to the blown big block it was a whole other beast.
Now it’s got a totally different small block combo in it and a different look and you’re going to enjoy David racing it.
Video Description:
You’ve seen the 1967 Crusher Camaro in a number of issues of Hot Rod magazine over the past 30 years, and also in a bunch of episodes of Roadkill, Roadkill Garage, and Hot Rod Garage on MotorTrend TV. In this video, I’m going to test it on the quarter-mile dragstrip.
For the car’s latest setup, I returned it to the way it looked when it was first finished in Hot Rod in 1995, Convo Pro wheels and all. It even has the same cowl-induction hood it had 30 years ago. The engine is a 400ci small-block Chevy, the trans is a GearStar Turbo 350, it has a Gear Vendors overdrive, and the rearend is a 9-inch with 3.50:1 gears. Prior to this video, the Camaro had run 11.75 seconds at The Strip in Las Vegas. How quick can it be at Famoso Dragstrip near Bakersfield? That’s what we’re here to find out, and I’ll give you some history and trivia along the way.
