Future Rimac Models Could Be Powered By Diesel

Rimac has built a reputation as a hypercar brand championing an all-electric powertrain. However, an Autocar report suggests the Croatia-based automaker is looking to switch it up using different energy sources, such as petroleum gas, hydrogen, and diesel.

Company CEO Matt Rimac said, “Rimac isn’t exclusively electric – it’s doing whatever is most exciting at the time.” This reveals an ongoing program determining if so-called nanotubes can effectively replace batteries in an electric drivetrain.

From the sound of it, the new technology should improve the power-to-weight ratio of its models, especially considering batteries make up most of the weight in EVs. This explains why EVs can be blistering fast on straight-line runs but lack the pace during cornering.
