Both the coupe and convertible concepts, however, are pure battery electrics, which makes sense given Genesis’s commitment to becoming a BEV-only brand by 2030. And if you think that designing sedans (and coupes and convertibles, for that matter) is a relatively simple, straightforward process, then you’d be wrong. As automakers have largely abandoned these segments over the past few years, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find designers with any experience creating them.
Donckerwolke, whose past design credits include the Lamborghini Murcielago and Gallardo expressed frustration when it comes to hiring. “I hate the fact that young designers that I sometimes interview have only worked on SUVs because they don’t know what proportions are,” he said.
Perhaps it’s time for Donckerwolke to properly educate them.
