The Indian obsession with Gold needs no preface. There are people in our country who are so obsessed with the yellow metal that they put it wherever they can- from teeth to the vehicles they use. It is not rare that we see the affluent get their vehicles wrapped and plated in Gold. Bharatji Thakor, often known as the Gold Man Of Gujarat, is now being noted for his car- a gold-wrapped Audi Q5!

Thakor has a huge following on Instagram. He flaunts kilograms of Gold in most of his posts and reels. Out of his obsession with the metal, the man has done Gold wrapping on his luxury SUV, which, by the way, is an older generation model. As seen in one of his previous videos, the Q5 originally had a Black exterior colourway. Thakor seems to have done the wrap recently.

The entire bodywork now wears Gold. No change has been made to the alloy wheel colour. Even the number plate features Golden letters on a White background. In India, changing or using fancy colours on the number plate is not permitted by law. All personal civilian vehicles are required to have White plates with Black letters/numbers. This Q5 also has Golden plates with ‘Gold Man Of Gujarat’ engraved on them.
This is not a one-off ‘Gold Man’ instance though. As Gold symbolises wealth, power and prosperity in the Indian culture, people often choose the same to show off their power and status. Previously Sunny Waghchure from Pimpri-Chinchwad region, Maharashtra, who is known by the name ‘Gold Man’ had wrapped several of his cars and SUVs in Gold. His collection of Gold-wrapped vehicles includes Audi Q7, Mercedes E Class and Jaguar XF.
Popular businessman and influencer from Kerala, Boby Chemmanur is another example of the rich and powerful going for Gold wraps for their vehicles. The Gold merchant took things to a whole new level by doing the wrap on not a Mercedes, BMW or Audi car, but a Rolls Royce Phantom! Sounds crazy? Well, this car, is registered as a taxi and even has a ‘TAXI’ plate on top, like what you see abroad. A Gold-plated Rolls Royce Phantom taxi in the southernmost state of India- how crazy can that be?!
Interestingly, it is not just the immensely wealthy businessmen with luxury cars opting for Gold wraps. The video of an uncle riding what looks like a Gold-plated Royal Enfield bullet had recently surfaced online. In this case, no actual Gold or wraps were used. Instead, he used tasteful brass-plated panels and trims to replicate the look of antique Golden highlights.
Used in combination with the stock Black paint, these give the motorcycle a classy, elegant styling. It has brasss-plating on the turn indicator, headlamp cover, number plate, and upper portion of the front fork cover. The stock crash guards, footrests, clutch and brake levers, and odometer have also been replaced with better-looking ones. Plus, minor cosmetic enhancements and accessories have also been fitted on the bike.
