The Mazda CX-70 was introduced to the US market at the beginning of 2024. It’s certainly not without its appeal, borrowing its styling from its big brother, the CX-90. Mazda claims this new design language aims to combine both traditional Japanese motifs with modern design elements to create a unique look.

The Cost Of A Fully-Loaded CX-70 PHEV Premium Plus
CX-70 PHEV Premium Plus Available Options And Their Costs
While the CX-70 looks very upscale, the cost of a fully loaded one isn’t as high as you’d expect. The top trim is called the PHEV Premium Plus, and it’s priced at $57,450 before any destination fees or options are added in. Because Mazda prefers to keep its options list simple, the Premium Plus trim receives virtually every option offered.
However, there are still quite a few options to choose from, if the fully-loaded CX-70 isn’t fully-loaded enough for you. Things like a digital rearview mirror, towing packages, running boards, a slew of cargo management aids, and even pet supplies can be selected. You can even add extra ambient lighting, to make your CX-70 even more moody in the nighttime hours.
There are also five premium paint finishes: Melting Copper Metallic, Rhodium White Premium, Soul Red Crystal Metallic, Polymetal Gray Metallic, or Zircon Sand Metallic. The cost for a premium paint job is $595 for Rhodium White Premium and Soul Red Crystal Metallic and $450 for Polymetal Gray Metallic, Melting Copper Metallic, and Zircon Sand Metallic. If you add every conceivable option available, you’ll end up paying $64,889 before any taxes, fees, or destination charges for a completely decked-out CX-70.

Despite being a type of hybrid, the CX-70 PHEV’s powertrain packs more than enough power. Thanks to the combination of a 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated inline-four engine and a 17.8-kWh PHEV system, the CX-70 PHEV puts out 323 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to all that torque, the CX-70 PHEV can tow a maximum of 5,000 pounds when properly equipped.
The core tenet of a hybrid is maximizing the range between fill-ups without sacrificing performance. The CX-70 excels here, as well, with a maximum estimated driving range of 490 miles.

10 Plug-In Hybrids With The Most All-Electric Range
These are the top 10 PHEVs most likely to get you to work and back without burning a drop of gasoline.
You can also choose to drive on electric-only power, in which case you’ll be able to travel 25 miles in electrically-propelled silence. According to the EPA’s estimation, the CX-70 PHEV manages 56 MPGe combined.
To handle all that PHEV power, Mazda employs the use of an e-SKYACTIV eight-speed automatic transmission. All CX-70s come standard with all-wheel drive as well, meaning those of us who live in colder climates need not worry about a few inches of snow.
The CX-70 PHEV Premium Plus Has Got Style, Too
It’s obvious Mazda has hit its grown-up phase as of late. Seemingly gone are the edgy and futuristic looks we have become used to in the last decade or so. Instead, a much more grown-up and grounded look is seen in their new CX-line of SUVs. Mazda said it wanted to go more premium in 2022, and so far, it has nailed every new model out of the park. To say grown-up does not mean boring, however. Every angle of the CX-70 has a unique feel to it, and together, they make a handsome exterior package.

From CX-30 To CX-90, Here’s How Every Mazda Crossover Fits Into The Lineup
Where do the Mazda CX-30, CX-5, CX-50, CX-70, and CX-90 fit in together?
The interior of the CX-70 tells a similar story. As we discussed previously, Mazda combined old-world Japanese themes with modern styling to create a special feeling within the cabin that you don’t see on other vehicles in its price range.
The difference between the CX-70 and CX-90 also becomes apparent inside. The CX-90 has three rows of seats, whereas the CX-70 only has two. Despite losing a row of seats, the CX-70 has identical cargo space, with a maximum of 75.3 cubic feet of room for whatever you need to haul.

The CX-90 PHEV Premium Plus Is Also Worth The Price
If you find yourself in need of that third row of seats, the CX-90 PHEV Premium Plus is worth the price, too. Virtually every option we discussed with the CX-70 PHEV Premium Plus is available on its big sibling, except you do have the option of adding a few more premium paint colors.
You’ll also be treated to the same 2.5-liter PHEV powertrain, eight-speed transmission, and standard all-wheel drive. Better yet, despite the added weight, the CX-90 PHEV boasts the same range, MPGe, and all-electric range of the CX-70 PHEV, meaning you won’t have to compromise to go bigger.
The CX-90 PHEV Premium Plus is priced right at $58,905, meaning the jump from the CX-70 to the CX-90 is only $1,455. In short, Mazda has a pair of capable, spacious, and attractive PHEV SUVs for sale.
