Ineos Automotive has just announced its bespoke customization service, with possibly the best-sounding name of them all: Arcane Works. Think of this as the equivalent of JLR’s Special Vehicle Operations or Porsche’s Exclusive Manufaktur, but geared towards making the most unique versions of one of the most robust off-roaders around. Specifically, Arcane Works will be responsible for limited-edition versions of the Grenadier, with customers personalizing these thereafter for resulting hand-finished, low-volume 4x4s made with the finest of materials.
Bespoke Colors, Materials, And Even Names
Models produced under the Arcame Works banner won’t just be your common or garden special editions. No, each limited-series model will receive its own name, and each will be identified by unique features and potentially even new technologies not seen on the mainstream Grenadier derivatives.

Arcane Works will partner with a curated selection of craftsmen to let customers choose various finishes and colorways to create the perfect, personalized off-roader. The word “arcane” is derived from Latin and means “understood by few; mysterious or secret,” which sounds like a pretty cool name to us.
“We know this is something our customers have been looking for, and working in small batches means we can give them a genuinely custom-made experience. That’s why we chose the name Arcane, as the vehicles will be so unique as to be rarely spotted in the wild.”
– George Ratcliffe, Ineos Automotive Commercial Director.
The First Reveal On A Global Stage
Every Arcane Works project will be hand-finished at the Hambach plant in France, a facility that once belonged to Mercedes-Benz and was acquired by Ineos in 2021. For the time being, these special models will only be based on either the gasoline- or diesel-powered derivatives – both of which are powered by BMW engines – but we wouldn’t rule out the hydrogen variants being added to the roster at a later date.
Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster Pickup Truck Hit With Chicken Tax
A 59-year-old tariff still impacts foreign-built pickup trucks.
Ineos says that Arcane Works “will also become a test bed for new technologies and systems for INEOS vehicles, such as uprated engine modifications, new chassis systems, and many new materials and features.” Considering the BMW B58 engine used in the gas-powered Grenadier is detuned, perhaps Arcane Works will unlock its full potential to create a rival to the forthcoming Land Rover Defender Octa. As for what’s first on the agenda, we don’t have to wait too long to find out, as the first model from Arcane Works will launch next month at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
