The Fisker Ocean is a segment leader in many ways, but it seems the all-new electric SUV is dealing with its fair share of teething problems.
According to internal documents seen by TechCrunch, more than 100 customer vehicles have suffered from “loss-of-power incidents,” where the vehicle is essentially rendered undrivable. Fisker says these problems are uncommon and notes that it has rectified most Ocean-related issues with over-the-air software updates.
But the story doesn’t end there. The Fisker documents show customers have to contend with more than sudden power losses. Other issues include a loss of braking power, the hood detaching and flying up at speed and even malfunctioning key fobs that have left people locked inside their vehicles. These aren’t minor problems and could potentially place customers in danger.
UPDATE: Fisker told CarBuzz that it has begun to release Ocean OS 2.0 Software Update, which will rollout in a series of three OTA updates starting this week. The update addresses “performance and powertrain improvements” and other user experience changes. “The Fisker Ocean brake system uses both friction braking and regenerative braking. In December 2023, Fisker responded to customer feedback and issued an Over-the-Air update (Version 1.10) to the regenerative system that improved the customer experience when traveling over bumps and uneven surfaces, resolving the issue,” a company spokesperson said. “The primary system alone, without regen, meets or exceeds all global certification standards for brake performance. Reported customer feedback was addressed with over-the-air updates.”
