Is This The Most Badass Oldsmobile 442 Ever Built?

Ironworks Speed and Kustom out of Bakersfield, CA is no stranger to high end builds. Rodger Lee and crew have built rides that have won awards at SEMA and been in every car magazine out there. That’s where the Legacy Series came to fruition.

These are cars built in a bit of a production line, where they are all 1970-1972 GM A-Bodies; They have all been Chevelle’s until this 442 came up. He builds only five of them a year using stock bodies and if they are already painted, then the entire build time is about eight short months. This is the first non-Chevelle in the Legacy Series line, a 1970 Oldsmobile 442 that checks every box in our book.

“These cars are meant for an individual who wants to use this classic car to do car things,” stated Rodger. In simpler terms these cars are so refined and well built you can daily drive them, or hop in them in drive coast-to-coast without an issue and comfortably. Rodger has been building cars professionally for over 20 years, and these limited-edition builds are a culmination of all his knowledge.

How he accomplishes that is by incorporating modern independent rear suspension along with modern engines and transmissions. The entire frame is custom built to his specs and decked out with the best coil overs and brakes around. On the inside he uses modern bucket seats that have been recessed so that even Rodger who’s over 6-feet tall can fit inside comfortably. There’s tons of carbon fiber and machined parts that fix weak links from the interior to the exterior. The gauge housing? 100% billet aluminum and not flimsy plastic like the original.
