Jay Leno Drives A McLaren Speedtail Unlike Any Other

It’s no secret that comedian Jay Leno is a big fan of McLaren. In fact, he owns a black F1 likely worth over $20 million and was also one of the first people in the world to take delivery of a P1 nearly a decade ago. It’s fitting then that Leno was recently given the opportunity to drive a very special McLaren Speedtail lovingly known as Albert.

This Speedtail started out life as one of the test mules that McLaren used for the car’s development but it then decided to transform it into a customer car in partnership with the McLaren Beverly Hills dealership.

Every Speedtail is special but what makes this one even more desirable is the fact that it has a one-off paint scheme that took McLaren Special Operations 12 long weeks to make a reality. The paint has been applied over the naked carbon fiber body and created to mimic the way that air flows over its body. The paint was done completely by hand and starts in Ueno Grey at the front to pay homage to the color of the F1 GTR that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The color then fades to Magnesium Silver, the same color that the F1 was first shown in at the Monaco Grand Prix in 1992.

As is typical with videos from Jay Leno’s Garage, the first half of the clip focuses on the car’s stunning exterior and interior before Leno heads out onto the streets of Los Angeles to see what the Speedtail is capable of. Of course, he can’t explore all of its performance given that it can hit 250 mph (402 km/h), but he still gives the throttle a boot full to see how it launches off the line.
