Jeep Wagoneer And Grand Wagoneer May Be Losing V8 Engine

Would Jeep be bold enough to drop the famous 5.7-liter naturally aspirated V8 from the Wagoneer range? It would make sense. The top-spec Wagoneer Series III is only available with the Hurricane motor, and Jeep never even bothered offering a V8 option for the long-wheelbase Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L.

The Hurricane engine makes a lot more sense when you compare it to the old-school V8. In the Grand Wagoneer, the naturally aspirated V8 engine produces 471 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque, while the turbocharged inline-six provides 510 hp and 500 lb-ft. The Wagoneer’s V8 has 392 hp/404 lb-ft on tap, while the detuned Hurricane engine beats it with an impressive output of 420 hp and 468 lb-ft.

The six-cylinder’s peak torque is also available from 3,500 rpm (3,950 rpm in the V8), making it better suited to relaxed commuting and off-roading.
