Lancia Aurelia Is A Premium Italian EV Crossover Coming In 2026

by Thanos Pappas

This story includes speculative renderings of a Lancia Aurelia made by Jean Francois Hubert/SB-Medien for CarScoops, that are neither related to nor endorsed by Lancia.

Lancia is preparing for three new model launches for the next six years, including the Ypsilon in 2024, the Aurelia in 2026, and the Delta in 2028. Among those, the Aurelia will be the biggest revelation for the Italian brand in terms of bodystyle, with a historic nameplate being used in a fully electric crossover. We gathered everything we know about the upcoming model, accompanied by a speculative rendering created by our associates.

The Aurelia will be the flagship of Lancia’s range, coming with the largest footprint. It has been officially confirmed that the model will measure 4.6 meters (181 inches) long, which is slightly shorter than the BMW 3-Series and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Unlike the latter, though, which are available in sedan and estate form, the Aurelia will adopt a more adventurous stance, merging the lines between cars and SUVs.

The speculative rendering depicts the Lancia Aurelia with a crossover fastback silhouette, similar to the Peugeot 408, the Citroen C5 X, and the upcoming Opel/Vauxhall Manta. While the footprint and the proportions could look similar to the aforementioned models, the Aurelia will feature a unique bodywork. The independent artist envisioned it with less aggressive but more opulent looks, infusing design cues from past Lancia models.

At the front, the Aurelia gets the illuminated grille that was promised by Jean-Pierre Ploué, Lancia’s new design boss, combined with LED almond-shaped headlights similar to the Fulvia concept from 2003. Other features include the wide bumper intake, the discreet plastic cladding around the wheelarches and on the side sills, the muscular fenders, and of course the sleek roofline. The duo-tone treatment with the contrasting black roof and the design of the large-diameter wheels is typical of Lancia.

Premium, Tech-Filled And Retro-Inspired Interior

The interior will be inspired by iconic Lancia models and Italian furniture, with the automaker’s moodboard previewing light-colored upholstery and retro patterns. Lancia CEO Luca Napolitano revealed that they are benchmarking Mercedes-Benz, thus we should expect high-quality materials and improved build quality.

On the tech front, as any modern premium flagship, the Aurelia will feature all of the goodies from the Stellantis parts bin. The package will likely include the latest advancements in ADAS systems by 2026, and a sophisticated infotainment which is an important selling point for the segment. Lancia recently announced its upcoming interface called “SALA” (Sound, Air, Light, Augmented), which will allow the driver to control the audio system, the ambient lighting, and the climate control.

Fully Electric Powertrain

Lancia has pledged to become an EV-only brand by 2028, with the Aurelia being exclusively offered in EV form right from its debut in 2026. While the other similarly-sized crossover fastback by Stellantis are based on the EMP2 platform, the Aurelia will most likely sit on the newer STLA Medium architecture. Judging from the positioning of the brand, the chassis setup will likely be focused on comfort rather than sporty handling, leaving Alfa Romeo models to fulfill that role.

According to Stellantis, the STLA Medium will offer up to 700 km (440 miles) of range if specified with the larger of the battery packs ranging between 87-104 kWh. The architecture will be compatible with single or dual electric motors – the latter would be more fitting to the Aurelia, producing anywhere between 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and 443 hp (330 kW / 449 PS).

The debut of the Aurelia is scheduled for 2026 so we don’t expect to see any mules or prototypes testing anytime soon. However, the Ypsilon supermini that will debut in 2024 will give us an idea of Lancia’s new design language that will also be applied on the Aurelia flagship.
