LEAKED: Mini Aceman EV Breaks Cover Ahead Of Debut

  • Mini Cooper Aceman leaks ahead of April 24 reveal
  • Will be offered in regular and sporty S guises
  • Smorgasbord of accessories and styling details to choose from

The new Mini Cooper Aceman has leaked ahead of its planned April 24 reveal, which has presumably angered some high-ups in the BMW Tower but gives us an early glimpse at the all-electric crossover that, until now, has been hidden under camouflage. Mini’s latest product was leaked via China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

Designed to fill the gap between the compact Cooper Hardtop and the larger crossovers, the Aceman looks like a miniature version of the Countryman Electric.

That said, the styling elements haven’t carried over very well and look somewhat awkward on the smaller frame. The Aceman looks more like a budget crossover (go check out the Indian/Brazillian-market Citroen C3) than a premium compact vehicle.

Plenty Of Styling Options To Choose From

Previewed in both S and presumably Cooper trims, subtle differences exist between the sportier version and its regular counterpart. The former receives more upmarket LED headlights with distinctive lighting signatures, silvery bronze-colored trim around the faux grille and bumper trim, and ‘S’ badging on the front fascia.

Similar differences can be spotted at the rear, where the sprightlier variant wears an S badge on its tailgate. The same bronze trim can be seen on the bumper. In comparison, the base model looks very bland. Still, as we can see from the pictures below, the Cooper Aceman and Aceman S will be offered a variety of aesthetic enhancements.

This includes different colors for the side mirrors, multiple decal patterns, and numerous wheel designs ranging from 17 to 19 inches. Some JCW-branded accessories suggest the eventual introduction of a full-blown JCW model or, at the very least, a JCW styling package.

It’s worth noting options vary from market to market, so US-spec models could receive different accessories and styling packages.

Compact Dimensions Conceals Roomy Interior

The Aceman is very compact. It measures 161.1 inches long (only 2.6 inches longer than the outgoing Mini Cooper four-door), 59.6 inches tall, and 69 inches wide. Thanks to the electric drivetrain, the Aceman has a generous 102.5-inch wheelbase, only three inches shorter than the Audi Q3’s wheelbase.

Interestingly, MIIT lists another vehicle length (160.4 inches), which is down to the different bumpers available for the respective models.

Per CarNewsChina, the Aceman will reportedly be powered by the same electric drivetrains used by its Cooper Hardtop sibling. The base model will receive 181 horsepower and a 40.7 kWh battery pack. The racier S variant will receive a healthier 215 horses and a larger 54.2 kWh battery pack, with a top speed of 106 mph.

As a reminder, the Aceman will be officially revealed on April 24 at Auto China (also known as the Beijing Auto Show). We expect it to arrive in the United States in 2025.
