Lotus even had to compensate dealerships for the cost of increased floorplan expenses. Vanessa Meier, spokesperson for the automaker, said that the company was looking for a solution. “It is something we are all talking about. For the most part, dealers are understanding. People have questions, and we are working to make sure we can get them all the information they need.”

Any further delays would have been devastating for the brand. There’s a chance customers could have grown tired of the wait and decided to purchase a sports car from BMW, Porsche, or any one of Lotus’ rivals.

A Toyota-sourced 3.5-liter V6 powers the Emira, supercharged and tuned by Yamaha to develop 400 horsepower. Soon, it will be joined by an AMG 2.0-liter turbocharged four-pot with 360 horses and a dual-clutch automatic gearbox. As the last-ever ICE-powered Lotus, the Emira will hold a special place in the hearts of many Lotus enthusiasts. One day, it will be replaced by the Type 135, rumored to be an all-electric spiritual successor to the Elise.
