As an exterior designer, Gervex didn’t try to imagine a cabin, but you can picture your own rendition of a modern fighter jet-style display. Ironically, if the Swedish automaker had been quicker to adapt to trends like the advent of the SUV, it may have been more successful. Yes, the midsize Saab 9-7X once existed, but it was a GM-built oddity described by US media as an expensive and, therefore, pointless alternative to the Chevrolet TrailBlazer.
Sadly, Saab has been in poor health for a long time. After GM’s mismanagement, it went bust and was later snapped up by a Chinese conglomerate in 2012. Things were looking good over the last decade – a Koenigsegg partnership was even announced in 2019 – but even with a prototype vehicle, the brand died again. As things stand today, another owner has taken control, this time from Canada, and the future of the marque remains uncertain.
