Mahindra is currently one of the biggest SUV manufacturers in India. In addition to petrol and diesel SUVs, it’s well-known that Mahindra is extensively working on a new range of electric SUVs. One of the electric SUVs set to be launched by Mahindra is the BE.05. We have seen several spy pictures and videos of the upcoming EV. So, what do we know about this upcoming SUV? When will it be launched, and what features will it offer? Let’s take a detailed look at the upcoming BE.05 EV.
When Is It Getting Launched?
Let’s address the most frequently asked question first: When will Mahindra launch this EV? The BE.05 has been spotted on the road more often lately, which suggests that Mahindra is extensively testing the SUV and that the launch is imminent. According to reports available online, Mahindra is expected to launch the BE.05 sometime in the second half of 2025. There are unconfirmed reports suggesting that the launch might happen around October next year.
Exterior
The Mahindra BE.05 has a very sharp design. The upcoming BE.05 was designed at Mahindra’s Advanced Design Europe (M.A.D.E) in Oxfordshire, United Kingdom. The SUV features a sleek and edgy front end with C-shaped LED DRLs. Since this is a Born Electric SUV, we expect to see BE branding and badges across various parts of the SUV.
The SUV will feature a coupe-like design, which has become popular in the affordable segment recently. On the side, you’ll notice flush-fitting door handles, a rising window line, aerodynamic wheels, and low-resistance tires. The design looks aerodynamic, which is a good thing for an EV.
Like the front, the rear has a very edgy and sleek design. A vertical LED strip acts as a tail lamp on the BE.05. Additionally, there is a connecting LED bar that meets the vertical tail lamps. The rear also features split roof-mounted spoilers and a muscular-looking bumper.
Interior
From recent spy pictures and videos that have surfaced online, we have a good idea of what to expect from the interior. The BE.05 will feature a glass roof similar to what we’ve seen in the Range Rover Evoque or the upcoming MG Windsor EV. The EV will have a premium-looking cabin with a floating-type center console that includes storage space underneath.
We’ve also seen a rotary knob to control the infotainment screen, located right next to the gear lever. There is also a plastic panel that divides the driver and co-passenger sides of the cabin. The EV features AC vents integrated into the dashboard, running across its width. The steering wheel has a flat top and bottom, almost resembling something out of a sci-fi movie.
The steering wheel has a glowing BE logo in the center. Mahindra will also offer twin digital screens on the dashboard. One will be a touchscreen infotainment system, while the other will be a fully digital instrument cluster. In one of the test mules, a strap-like inner door handle was observed; we’ll have to wait and see if it will be included in the production version.
Power & Range
At the moment, we don’t have exact figures to disclose. However, in a recent video, the BE.05 was seen next to an Ioniq 5, which we believe Mahindra is using for benchmarking purposes. The Ioniq 5, sold as a CKD, offers a 72.6 kWh battery pack, delivering an ARAI-rated range of 631 km.
The BE.05 is not expected to offer as large a battery pack, but we do anticipate a decent range from it. Mahindra is expected to equip the electric SUV with a battery pack large enough to offer a driving range of 450-500 km, or possibly even more. It will be positioned above the XUV400 EV and is expected to compete against the recently launched Tata Curvv.ev.
