Mahindra Scorpio N, Thar, Land Rover Defender & Toyota Fortuner goes dune bashing

Off-roading has slowly started gaining traction and we have lately started seeing a lot of groups that organise such off-road events. Most of these groups let the owners explore off-road capabilities of their vehicles. They are often lead by experienced professionals to avoid any trouble. We have seen several videos of SUVs like Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra Thar going off-road. Here we have a video where SUVs like Mahindra Scorpio N, Land Rover Defender along with other SUVs go dune bashing. The video shows how capable the Scorpio-N is off the road in its stock form.

The video has been uploaded by Anshuman Bishnoi on their YouTube channel. In this video, the group is seen driving on sand dunes in Rajasthan. They started by decreasing air pressure in the tyres. The first spot where they were driving was fairly easy and did not have much loose sand. We first see Land Rover Defender being driven on the sand. The SUV was performing pretty well without any issues. It is an extremely capable SUV the only disadvantage that the Defender 110 has is its size. It is a huge SUV and if the SUV gets beached, then recovering it becomes a task.

The driver of Defender did manage to get it stuck in one of the dunes. The SUV was not beached however, none of the wheels had enough traction to pull the SUV out. The members of the group immediately removed the sand from one side. As the SUV was tilted towards one of the side, the vlogger engaged 4L and slowly crawled the SUV towards the slope. Gravity did rest of the work and the SUV was free without any issue.

Next was the Mahindra Scorpio N. The SUV was performing pretty well on the dunes. At one point, the Scorpio N got stuck and it was recovered by the Fortuner. Vlogger who is an experienced off-roader mentions that Mahindra Scorpio N is a capable off-roader and the only problem with it is the low ground clearance. The traction control and MLD on the Z8 L 4×4 variant of Scorpio N works pretty well and even in sand mode, the throttle response is just enough. The tyres also plays a crucial role in such drives. Mahindra offers HT tyres with Scorpio N. These tyres are not the best when it comes to off-roading. SUVs that are taken off-road should at least have AT tyres. Other than the ground clearance, approach and departure angle on Scorpio N is also not the best.

The SUV is likely to get damaged during extreme off-road sessions. The groups also drive to a section in the dune where the sand was very soft and SUVs tend to bog down. The Scorpio got stuck here as well but overall performed pretty well. There were other SUVs like Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner, old and new generation Mahindra Thar, Maruti Gypsy on the dunes. They all performed pretty well on the sand dunes and recovered Scorpio N multiple times.
