We all know how highways in India are currently under construction. Many new expressways have also been partially opened to the public, and one of the first names that comes to mind when we speak about expressways is the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. It is a world-class expressway aimed at reducing the travel time between the national capital and financial capital. However, we have seen several videos on the internet proving that there are issues with the expressway. Here we have one such video of a man where he calls the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway India’s worst.

The video has been shared by Muralidharan Gopal on his X profile. In this video, we see the user traveling through the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. He starts by saying that although the expressway is being marketed as world-class, that is not true. He mentions that most of the time, half of the lanes on the expressway are closed due to maintenance work. This happens regularly, as the quality of construction is quite poor.
The user also points out that this is not a comfortable expressway by any means. Any vehicle passing through this road will experience a bumpy ride, making the occupants feel uneasy. In fact, one cannot take a peaceful nap in the backseat while driving on this expressway due to the poor patchwork.
The patchwork is not done in a clean manner, making these sections irregular. Additionally, some sections on this road have even caved in, which also poses a problem while driving. This means that although you can drive at high speeds, there is no guarantee it will be a comfortable experience.
We can see that the car of the person recording the video is also moving around a lot. Nitin Gadkari, who is currently the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, often speaks about the expanding highways and expressways. He aims to help the common man by reducing travel time between major cities.
This is not the first time we have come across a video showing the poor quality of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. A few months ago, we saw a couple of vehicles hitting a caved-in section on the expressway and going airborne.
The video went so viral that even Nitin Gadkari reacted to it. Not only did he respond, but he also imposed a fine of Rs 50 lakh on the contractor responsible for the construction.
He also warned the operators of the Eastern Peripheral Expressway. During his latest trip via the Eastern Peripheral, he noticed the poor condition of the road and decided to issue a warning to the operators or agencies responsible for maintaining it. He said, “We will not spare you. We’ll ensure that the bank guarantees of those doing bad work are forfeited, and after this, we will blacklist you and not allow you to apply for new tenders.”
By issuing such warnings and guidelines, the minister likely wants to ensure that contractors do their job sincerely, which would reduce problems in the future and also increase the lifespan of the road.
