Maruti Jimny vs Mahindra Thar

The Mahindra Thar has been available in the market for the last couple of years and is currently one of the most popular SUVs among 4×4 enthusiasts. Maruti has also recently launched their all-new 4×4 SUV, the Jimny 5-door. The Jimny is a popular name among enthusiasts around the world, and the 5-door version has received an overwhelming response from buyers. Deliveries for the Jimny have already started, and we even have customers who have modified it. Here, we have a video in which a vlogger is seen comparing the Maruti Jimny and the Mahindra Thar in a detailed comparison video.

The video has been uploaded by Anubhav Chauhan on his YouTube channel. The vlogger starts by talking about the engine options. He mentions that the Maruti Jimny is available only with a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine, while the Mahindra Thar offers 2 diesel engine options and a petrol engine option. The Maruti Jimny is available with 4×4 as standard, whereas the Mahindra Thar comes in RWD and 4×4 versions. The RWD version of the Thar uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged diesel engine with a manual gearbox, while the 4×4 version gets a 2.2-liter mHawk turbo diesel engine, which comes with manual and automatic transmission. The petrol version of the Thar uses a 2.0-liter mStallion turbocharged engine, which comes in both RWD and 4×4 versions. Manual and automatic transmission options are available with this engine as well.

The Maruti Jimny comes with a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic transmission. The vlogger then starts talking about the dimensions. He says that the Jimny is as long as the Mahindra Thar, but it is not as wide and tall. However, the Maruti Jimny offers a longer wheelbase, and it has a ground clearance of 210 mm compared to the Thar’s 226mm. The vlogger mentions that the Thar looks a lot more rugged on the outside, but the Jimny offers slightly more features. For example, the top-end variant of the Jimny comes with headlamp washers, projector headlamps, request sensors, electrically folding ORVMs, and so on.

On the other hand, the Mahindra Thar misses out on all these features. Mahindra does not even offer body-colored door handles. Moving to the rear, the vlogger opens the boot of the Jimny and shows that even with the second-row seats up, there is decent space in the boot for luggage. Meanwhile, in the Mahindra Thar, there is not much space left in the boot. The vlogger then moves into the cabin of the Maruti Jimny and shows the dashboard, multi-function steering wheel, push start/stop button, electric adjustments for the ORVMs, the 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system that is available in many new Maruti cars, power window switches, hill descent control, and traction control button.

The vlogger then sits in the rear seat of the Jimny and mentions that both the front and rear seats have enough space to comfortably seat occupants. The added benefit in the Jimny is the dedicated door to access the rear seat. The vlogger then goes ahead and sits inside the Thar. He feels that the cabin in the Mahindra Thar is slightly wider, but it also lacks storage spaces. All other features like cruise control and traction control are available in this SUV. He mentions that both SUVs offer a commanding seating position, but the Jimny’s windscreen
