The poor quality of roads in India on many occasions has led to some horrific accidents. However, despite these, the authorities do not do anything to improve the infrastructure. Recently, due to a road being poorly built, a newly married couple who were traveling in their Maruti Suzuki Swift ended up inside a well during the night. Thankfully, both of them were rescued in time, and they did not suffer any serious injuries. However, this incident could have been fatal as well.
Maruti Suzuki Swift Fell in Well
Recently, a video in which the car owner explains how his Swift fell into a well with him and his wife inside has been shared on YouTube. It comes courtesy of Mathrubhumi News. In this video, the owner of the car, whose name is Karthik, and his wife, Vismaya, talk about the entire incident.
What Happened?
The newly married couple, Karthik and Vismaya, who recently got married two months ago, were traveling from Vismaya’s hometown, Kottarakara, to Karthik’s hometown, Aluva. They were going to celebrate the three-day Puja holidays of Vijayadashami and the end of Navratri.
Now, what happened was that on Friday, they were driving from Kottarakara to Aluva during the night. Unfortunately, due to the poor quality of the road, the couple’s Maruti Suzuki Swift lost control near Kolencherry in the Ernakulam district. Karthik reported that the car hit a dip in the road, and due to this, he lost control of the car.
Following this, it then collided with the side walls of a panchayat well. After this, it broke the wall and plunged into it. He stated that the well was approximately 15 feet deep, and there was five feet of water inside it. The entire incident was confirmed by an eyewitness named Chakkapan, who saw it happening.
The witness explained that the car lost control at a crossroad where there is a large dip filled with water. He stated that this dip is difficult to see during the night. Following this, he mentions that the car moved forward out of control and fell in the well.
Rescue Mission
As reported and also seen in the video, soon after the Swift fell into the well, a rescue mission was initiated. As part of this rescue effort, many locals, including Chakkapan, quickly gathered at the spot. They then started by rescuing the couple out. A local resident, Mary, and her son brought a ladder to the well.
During this time, Karthik had managed to get Vismaya out of the car and onto the car roof. They both can then be seen climbing out of the well with the help of the ladder. Finally, a crane was called to the location, and with its help, the Maruti Suzuki Swift was taken out of the well.
Condition of the Couple
Thankfully, despite this horrible accident, both Karthik and Vismaya managed to come out of it without any serious injuries. Also, as the water was only five feet deep, they were able to quickly come out of the vehicle. Had the water been deeper, it would have become extremely difficult for the couple to come out.
Poor Quality Roads
This entire incident took place due to the presence of a small dip in the road filled with water. In most places, authorities do not repair such dips and potholes until a lot of accidents take place. This poor quality of road infrastructure and its maintenance has caused many fatalities over the years.
