Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe Spotted Testing With Concealed Face

Key Takeaways

  • A Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe test vehicle has been spotted on the road
  • Front camouflage signals updates to headlights, grille, and front bumper
  • With Mercedes-Benz confirming a reduced lineup, this could be the last GLE Coupe

Our spies have spotted a mysterious Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe test mule – a bit surprising given that the swoopy SUV has just received significant updates for the 2024 model year. Even more boggling is that the prototype only has its front fascia concealed, leading us to think this is another facelift. But is that the case?

Before we delve deep, let’s discuss what we’re seeing here. The camouflage wrap on the test vehicle covers most of the front, with cut-outs reserved for the lights and the air intakes. If this is just a facelift, Mercedes could update the front fascia again, particularly the headlights, grille, and front bumper. The rest of the vehicle has no concealment, though the rear bumper is painted black.

Facelift Or Next-Gen Test Mule?

It must be noted that Mercedes-Benz has updated the mentioned elements in the mid-cycle refresh of the current-generation GLE Coupe. The US-spec models, the hotter AMG GLE Coupe, did receive new wheels and paint options, upgraded standard features, and improved suspension software. The AMG GLE 53 Coupe also received more torque.

That said, it’s speculated that the prototype spotted by our spy photographers could be a test mule for the next-generation GLE Coupe. Also, note that the prototype doesn’t have four exhaust pipes at the rear, which means it isn’t an AMG model.

Reduced Mercedes-Benz Lineup

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that there will be a next-generation GLE Coupe, but it will be the last of its kind, along with many others that will meet the ax as the automaker pushes through with a reduced lineup. That said, it makes more sense that we’re looking at a next-generation test mule instead of another facelifted model. We’ll know when more details surface in the next months.

At least now, we know the German automaker is cooking something for its coupe SUV – be it another refresh to extend the current generation or an all-new model swan song.
