Mini has also taken a new approach to how it styles its wheels. Designers are no longer focused on sculpted spokes but on graphic designs highlighted by strong color contrasts. The automaker says this creates an illusion of a larger wheel, which is emphasized by the larger spokes.
Moreover, the two-dimensional design is aerodynamic and improves range, an important point when considering both the Countryman and Cooper Hardtop 3-Door will be electric only.
“With our new Charismatic Simplicity design language, we are completely rethinking the iconic Mini. Our purist, progressive approach combines the simplicity of functional elements with the emotionality that Mini is renowned for,” explained Oliver Heilmer, head of design for Mini. “We are convinced that the conscious reduction to a few, but expressive elements enable innovations that would have been unthinkable before.”
