As for styling, the camouflage makes it difficult for us to see any changes, but there are a few things we can discuss. The Mercedes-AMG Panamericana grille is prominent despite the disguise and will provide the E53 and its mighty E63 cousin with plenty of menace.
The lower bumper appears to have been fitted with more aggressive air intakes. Subtle side skirts and a revised rear bumper also appear, along with rounded quad tailpipes. Lastly, the trunk lid has been adorned with a discreet spoiler.
We’re happy the E-Class AMG models won’t go the same route as the new C63. Mercedes elected to fit the W206 C63 with a turbocharged four-cylinder, and fans were unhappy with that decision, so it’s positive that the error will not be repeated here.
But how will it stack up to its arch-rival, the BMW M5? The new M car is also touted to adopt a plug-in hybrid setup. However, it will be mated to a V8.
