Apart from Daniel Bruhl, the cast is not well-known in the USA, but they are quite prominent actors in their home countries of Italy and Germany. Bruhl is once again back in action as the main antagonist, playing Audi’s team boss, who won the WRC championship using the famous Audi Quattro. His portrayal of Roland Gumpert is quite similar to his role in Rush, where Bruhl depicted the late Niki Lauda.
Lancia’s team was headed by a famous playboy, Cesare Fiorio, who loved fast women and cars. While most teams had given up trying to beat Audi’s seemingly unbeatable quattro all-wheel drive system, Fiorio decided to give it one last try with the Lancia 037, which has since been restomodded beautifully by Kimera. To put that in a modern concept, it would be like a GR86 trying to beat a GR Corolla on a rally stage. It’s just not going to happen.
Luckily, Lancia had many tricks up its sleeve and managed to give Gumpert a proper headache.
