Tata Nexon.EV has long been dominating EV sales in India. Growing with the sales is the list of complaints and customer grievances due to vehicle breakdowns and software bugs. Tata EVs and software glitches seem to have a more solid relationship than Tata Motors and their EV owners! Recently a disappointed owner of a Nexon.EV took to social media to explain how he was finding his car extremely unreliable and prone to frequent breakdowns.

A YouTuber from Palakkad, Kerala- JP, better known for his channel JP Food and Travel, owns a Purple coloured Nexon EV. He says that the car has been extremely unreliable and broke down four times in a year, and this is still his first year of ownership. Each time, the occupants would be stranded mid-way and wait helplessly for the recovery van. He further said that the showroom would take 2-3 days to get it sorted and return the car.
The most recent breakdown occurred near a McDonald’s outlet in Kerala, when the moving car abruptly switched to neutral and refused to shift back into the ‘ Drive’ mode. The owner then had to stop and park it nearby, and patiently wait for the recovery van. As it turns out, the recovery was done after three days of the vehicle breaking down- applause for the prompt Tata RSA! The digital instrument cluster shows ‘ESP Fault’.
The YouTuber also owns a Toyota Innova, and is very happy with the ownership. He says he has done four all-India road trips including the India-Nepal-Bhutan drive with it and it hasn’t had a breakdown yet. The reliability offered by a Toyota is truly immaculate.
Common Errors On Nexon EV
Tata Nexon EV owners have over the years reported a lot of errors and glitches in various areas of the vehicle. Let’s take a look at some of the most common ones:
- HV Critical Error: This can cause the EV to stall all of a sudden. It usually disappears when you restart the vehicle. However, if it occurs at a frequent rate, you might need to replace the battery and/or its components.
- Red Light Error: This glitch leads to ineffective charging. The common fix is to replace the charger. However, some say that doing so did not get it fixed for them.
- HV system fault: This usually appears when the battery is running low on charge- around 10%.
- Poor driving range: Users have also reported sudden, unprecedented drops in their vehicle’s range that would leave them stranded. The best solution here is to ring up the Tata Motors customer assistance center (1800 209 8282) at the earliest and get your vehicle inspected. Alternatively, you can also visit the nearest Tata Motors showroom as well.
Tata Motors Has Been Blind To Customer Grievances!
Despite a surge in glitches and customer complaints around them, Tata Motors hasn’t been too prompt with their responses, nor have they been known to be working on sustainable fixes. Most dealerships try to implement temporary fixes like sensor swaps or hard resets, instead of addressing the root cause. Various threads on forums like Team bhp tell us the same.
It is high time that Tata Motors started addressing these grievances. The Nexon.EV and Punch.EV are said to be the most vulnerable to these bugs and glitches…
