Polestar 2 gains extra functionality with latest software update

Polestar has started rolling out its 15th and latest over-the-air (OTA) software update to all existing Polestar 2 electric liftbacks which adds a number of “highly anticipated enhancements”.

A highlight of this P.29 update is the inclusion of an integrated YouTube app which will be installed by default in all newly produced vehicles.

There’s also a “significant update” to the Polestar 2‘s Range Assistant app that now allows drivers to monitor their energy consumption over the last 20, 40 or 100km. This is updated with real-time information to allow drivers to adjust their driving style.

A revised algorithm for the projected range shown in the Range Assistant app is now able to account for changes in environmental and “other factors” that effect efficiency.

Drivers can now also see this “real-world related” range figure on the digital instrument cluster, rather than the previous default range projection that used standard certified data.

Apple CarPlay, which was first introduced in June last year, now receives “extended functionality” with the integration of additional phone and media information on the home screen, handling of calls using the steering wheel buttons, and projection of calls and Apple Maps on the digital instrument cluster.

The Polestar 2 was first revealed as a Volvo concept in 2016 and later as a production version in 2019. Australian deliveries of the Tesla Model 3-rivalling electric vehicle (EV) started early last year.

At the beginning of 2023 Polestar detailed a number of changes to the Polestar 2 range, including new electric motor setups and batteries bringing more power and range, tweaked exterior styling, and additional standard features.

A highlight of this particular update will see single-motor variants of the Polestar 2 switch from front-wheel drive (FWD) to rear-wheel drive (RWD).

A very similar update was detailed for the Volvo XC40 and C40 Recharge electric crossovers that are based on the same CMA architecture and made in the same Chinese factory.

Australian customers will be able to order a 2024 Polestar 2 in the second quarter of 2023 through the Polestar Australia website. First deliveries are expected in the third quarter of 2023.
