Polestar, the Swedish electric performance car brand, has announced a groundbreaking collaboration with Mobileye, a leader in autonomous driving technology. The partnership aims to make Polestar 4 the first production vehicle to feature Mobileye’s Chauffeur autonomous driving technology.
Polestar 4 goes on sale in China today, laying the foundation for this technology by incorporating a Mobileye SuperVision-based Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) right from the beginning. With global sales planned for 2024, the first deliveries in China are expected before the end of 2023. Mobileye’s innovative technology is already integrated into over 150 million cars worldwide, making this collaboration a significant milestone.
The Chauffeur technology is set to offer eyes-off, point-to-point autonomous driving on highways and eyes-on automated driving in other environments in the coming years. The integration will be handled by ECARX, with potential application in future Polestar vehicles. This collaboration is a testament to the commitment of both companies to push the boundaries of automotive innovation.
Polestar CEO, Thomas Ingenlath, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that it could significantly enhance the innovation in the Polestar 4 electric performance SUV coupé. Ingenlath noted that the technology would provide customers the option to enable autonomous driving when desired, making all future journeys easier and more enjoyable.
The design of Polestar 4 combines elements from the Polestar Precept concept car with the aerodynamic lines of a coupé and the comfort and space of a modern SUV. Positioned between Polestar 2 and Polestar 3 in size and price, it symbolizes a balance of style, functionality, and affordability. Mobileye’s expertise in computer vision, artificial intelligence, mapping, and data analysis has propelled the company to the forefront of the autonomous driving field. Its collaboration with Polestar further cements its position as a driving force in the industry and a pioneer in the future of the mobility and transportation worlds.
By integrating Chauffeur technology into Polestar 4, the collaboration will not only enhance the driving experience but also set a new benchmark for the automotive industry. The global anticipation for Polestar 4’s launch with Mobileye’s SuperVision technology reflects the excitement around this joint venture, promising a revolutionary driving experience for the modern world.
