Electric vehicle maker Polestar has announced the appointment of Philipp Römers as the Head of Design. With 25 years of experience in the automotive design industry, Römers joins the automaker from Audi, where his most recent position was Head of Exterior Design. While at the Ingolstadt-based brand, he designed the current Audi A6, among other vehicles.
In an older interview with Audi, the designer said his “personal highlight” was the Audi e-tron GT, which recently received a facelift. This should stand him in good stead when designing all-electric vehicles over at Polestar. Prior to his stint at Audi, Römers was a designer at Volkswagen, where he was involved in the design of the Volkswagen Golf 7 and Passat B8.
Römers Is Succeeding Maximilian Missoni At Polestar
Römers was born in Cologne in 1979. His desire to be a car designer was nurtured as a young boy when he participated in a work experience program at Ford’s design studio. After studying transportation design at Pforzheim University, Römers joined Volkswagen in 2005 and switched to Audi in 2014.

He replaces Maximilian Missoni, who spent six years at the Swedish automaker, and has now taken on a new unspecified role “outside of Polestar.” Speaking on his new appointment, Römers said he is looking forward to designing the next generation of Polestar motorcars. “Polestar is the role model of a design-driven automotive company and it’s a great honor to take on the responsibility for the Design department,” said the 45-year-old.

Polestar 7 Is On The Way
Polestar’s chief executive also expressed his gratitude for Missoni’s service to the brand, noting that he was instrumental in establishing “the innovative design standards that combine aesthetics, luxury, and performance in a way that is truly Polestar.”
