This video of the Range Rover worth Rs 4 crore burning at a toll booth has been shared on Instagram by Aditya Tyagi. In this clip, it can be noted that a Range Rover Autobiography variant, which costs around Rs 4 crore, was seen with its bonnet open. It was then noted that the engine bay of this Range Rover was on fire.

The exact location where this incident took place or who the owner of this car is has not been revealed. However, what we can observe is that the police authorities, along with others, were trying to stop the fire from spreading by throwing water. For this task, they were seen emptying water bottles on top of the fire in the engine bay.

Meanwhile, the people inside the car from the other lane were recording this incident. They can be heard stating that this is the newest Range Rover and it has still caught fire. Apart from them, there were other people as well who were looking at this Range Rover’s engine being on fire.

What could have caused this fire?

At the moment, the actual cause of the fire has not been reported. However, netizens in the comments have stated that it could be due to aftermarket parts added by the owner of this car. Now, what we think is that there is close to zero chance of the owner getting something fitted from the aftermarket in his Rs 4 crore Range Rover. So this removes the chance of fire due to this reason.

Land Rover, Range Rover, and Jaguar Recall

Most likely, this fire has taken place due to an oil leak. We can say this because recently Land Rover and Jaguar have issued a recall in the USA for models from both brands manufactured in 2024. The recall has been made for a total of 2,128 SUVs, and the reason has been mentioned as “potential engine fire due to oil leaks.”

According to the reports, a total of 1,995 Land Rover and Range Rover models have been recalled. The specific number of models includes 910 Defenders, 235 Discovery SUVs, 303 Range Rovers, 500 Range Rover Sports, and 47 Range Rover Velars. Additionally, 133 units of the Jaguar F-Pace have also been recalled.

As per Land Rover and Jaguar, this issue of engine fire could be caused by the oil coming in contact with the hot components of the engine. It stated that the oil filter housing has been made out of plastic material which is not correct in specification. So over time, it can break and cause leakage of oil, which could eventually cause fire.

Why should water not be used in an engine fire?

For those who may not know, when dealing with engine fires, water should not be used. This is because it can spread flammable liquids, which can increase fire. Additionally, water conducts electricity. Hence, it poses a severe risk of electrical shock when used on electrical components in the engine.

What type of fire extinguisher should be used for engine fire?

Now, if you are dealing with car engine fires, make sure to use Dry Powder (ABC) or CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) extinguishers. Dry Powder extinguishers are versatile and can handle various fire types. These include those involving flammable liquids and electrical equipment commonly found in car engines. Meanwhile, CO2 extinguishers are also effective because they do not leave any residue. This is beneficial for the engine’s electrical components.
