SCHENECTADY â Schenectady has been cited on a national level for work in adopting electric vehicles with the 2024 Drive Electric Award from Plug In America, a nonprofit group that advocates for the use of plug-in electric vehicles.
The city was previously recognized as the 2022 EV City of the Year by the Electric Vehicle Association.
The city purchased 62 electric-powered golf carts last year to replace its collection of gas-powered carts at the Schenectady Municipal Golf Course.
Schenectady has also installed 26 EV chargers for public use and has 29 hybrid and electric vehicles in its municipal vehicle fleet.
âThis recognition is a testament to our commitment to clean transportation, sustainability, and innovation,â Mayor Gary McCarthy noted in a statement. âI extend my heartfelt thank you to Plug In America, our local EVA driver community including members of the Electric Vehicle Association, and to Lynkwell, who has been a long-time partner in our cityâs sustainable transportation journey. Together, we are driving progress and setting an example for others to follow.â
Schenectady is set to host the NY Capital District Drive Electric Week and Sustainability Fair on Oct. 6 on Liberty Street in conjunction with the Schenectady Greenmarket from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Chamber of Schenectady County announces honorees for 2024 award season
The city hosted the largest National Drive Electric Week event in the country in both 2022 and 2023.
Schenectady will be honored as a 2024 Drive Electric Award winner in California at an event being held in conjunction with the L.A. Auto Show in November alongside fellow recipients including U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm and student and community groups from across the country.
