Scorpio overtake gone wrong

Rash driving is a major cause of accidents in India and around the world. We’ve seen several examples that prove this. Drivers in India often lack patience on the road, which frequently leads to accidents. Here’s a video from Kerala where a Mahindra Scorpio driver attempting to overtake other vehicles on a narrow road goes wrong. The Scorpio driver loses control, and the SUV topples in the middle of the road.

The video was shared by A V Creations on their YouTube channel. It was recorded on the dash camera installed on the windshield of a bus following the Mahindra Scorpio. According to the video, the accident happened in the Kadirur region of Kerala’s Kannur district. When the video starts, we can see a Mahindra Scorpio SUV following a Honda Amaze sedan. As we already know from many videos, most roads in Kerala are very narrow, requiring extreme caution while driving.

The cars were passing through a narrow two-lane road that wasn’t very wide. The road passes through several junctions, and in the video, we can see that the Mahindra Scorpio driver was blindly following the Honda Amaze in front. Initially, it looked like the SUV driver was tailgating; however, the Scorpio driver soon moves the vehicle a bit to the right, hinting at his intention to overtake. Both the Scorpio and the Amaze were being driven at a speed that could be considered above normal. The Honda Amaze driver applied brakes when it got blocked behind a Fiat Punto. The Mahindra Scorpio driver swerved the car to the right and attempted to overtake the Amaze and the Punto.

What the driver forgot here were the dimensions of the vehicle. He was driving an SUV, which is tall. The moment he swerved the steering, the SUV lost control, and the rear wheels lost traction. The SUV skidded on the road, and within seconds, it toppled. In fact, sparks can be seen coming from the vehicle after the metal door of the SUV rubbed against the tarmac. The car skidded on the road for quite a few meters. The bus driver recording the video overtakes the car and stops the bus before the Scorpio. The driver and the conductor on the bus run to check the occupants. The occupants were probably safe and were rescued from the vehicle within no time.

The driver’s poor judgment caused this accident. The Mahindra Scorpio driver was so eager to overtake the vehicle in front of him that he forgot about the speed and dimensions. The Scorpio is a tall SUV, and we know that tall cars have a higher center of gravity, making them more unstable at turns and curves. If the driver had been a bit more patient or slow, he could have easily avoided this accident. The Scorpio driver did not hit any other vehicle, and the occupants were also lucky that the SUV, even after toppling, remained in their own lane and did not crash into any other vehicle coming from the opposite direction. Always drive within the speed limits, especially when you are inside the city, to avoid such accidents.
