Seven Figure Barn Garage Find!! 1931 Duesenberg Model J!! 1 of 25 Built! Hidden for 55 Years!
Holy crap! When was the last time you heard of a barn or garage find that was just one of twenty-five ever built?! Yeah, this is something truly special. I’m going to let Chad Ehrlich tell the story, cause it is awesome.
Video Description:
Our good friend Doug Pray at the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Company in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma got the call of a lifetime a few months ago!
Everyone in the old car world has heard the stories of the car that was locked in a building 50 years ago and hasn’t been seen since! The “story” is always about how rare and valuable this particular car is and how it’s been there for years waiting to be discovered. As everyone in the old car world knows, those stories are very seldom true. Even when the car in storage does exist, we all know that the car in the “story” is almost Never as good as what the years of tall tales have made it out to be! For Doug Pray, this call turned out to be real!!!!
A few months ago Doug got a call from a very nice lady and she told Doug that she did in fact have an old car stored in a heated garage. Her dad had put the car in the garage in storage in 1967. The garage was locked and the car had never been moved since. The family had decided the time had come to do something with the car. The Pray family has been in the business since 1960 when Doug’s dad Glen Pray, bought the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Co. and Doug got the call!
Doug was almost in disbelief when she politely told him that the car was a Duesenberg! After a few questions and a short conversation on the phone, Doug was led to believe that the car was in fact a real Duesenberg! A few days later, arrangements were made for Doug and Jill Pray to visit and examine the car in person. Doug has been in the old car world his entire life and he still wasn’t ready for what they found in that tiny, locked and heated garage! When they went into the garage, he found this 1931 Duesenberg Model J with a Murphy Body and disappearing convertible top!!! Only 25 of these cars were made and they are literally one of the most desirable classic cars ever made!!!!! The garage was so small that after the car was in, the garage doors wouldn’t close and they had to take the rear bumper off to close the garage doors!!
This was an absolutely amazing find! Thankfully, Jill got some video and pics of the experience to share with us and I was able to add them to this video! The car has been sold and the current plan is to get the car running and driving and display it in “As Found” condition for a while. A full, concours restoration will be planned in the future!
Big thanks to Doug Pray and his crew at the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Co. for sharing this with me and letting me share it with you! Jill Pray shot the video on location of the car coming out of the garage. Adam Pray, Doug’s son and the new head of the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Co. shot the clips of unloading the car at their location. Be sure to check out my other videos including the full Auburn Cord Duesenberg Co. Playlist on my channel as well as all of the other old car videos that we do on here!!!
