The AE86 Toyota Corolla, effectively the spiritual predecessor to the GR86, is more than just a zippy econo-box; it’s a legend of JDM car culture synonymous with drifting and tuning. But this particular build from Japan dials up the JDM to 11 as a street-legal race car that gives Nissan GT-Rs a hard time around a race track.
Responsible for the build is Crystal Body Yokohama, a renowned tuning shop in Yokohama, Japan, specializing in building wild AE86s. The AE86 in question is a track car that retains road legality but effectively acts as the shop’s demo car for what it can do, from engine and gearbox builds and tunes to aerodynamic body parts, exhaust kits, suspension, and more.
Despite only making approximately 200 horsepower, the build managed to post a 58.8-second lap time at the 1.2-mile Tsukuba Circuit, placing it in Godzilla territory after the GT-R Nismo lapped the circuit in 59.3 seconds in 2020.
