- Subaru has filed 12 new trademarks with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
- All 12 trademarks are filed for automobiles, meaning they could be potential names for new models, trim levels, or concept cars.
- The full list of Subaru’s new trademarks includes Accomplice, Everguide, Everpass, Getaway, Highroad, Hightrail, Outsider, Tailwind, Trailhead, Trailseeker, Uncharted, and Viewfinder.
Subaru may be looking to expand its adventurous offerings in the near future. As earlier reported by AutoGuide, Subaru filed 12 new trademarks with the USPTO last week. Each of the 12 patents is filed as an International Class 12 trademark covering “Automobiles and structural parts and fittings therefor.” In everyday terms, they’re all trademarks for vehicles—not software or other products that a car company may sell.
Even narrowing the trademarks down to vehicles leaves a wide range of possibilities for what Subaru could be planning. The list of new trademarks includes Accomplice, Everguide, Everpass, Getaway, Highroad, Hightrail, Outsider, Tailwind, Trailhead, Trailseeker, Uncharted, and Viewfinder. Most of the new names like Hightrail, Trailseeker, and Highroad seem like they could be new adventure-style trims to sit alongside, or fully replace the existing Wilderness editions.
Expanded Lineup
As things stand now, Subaru currently makes a Wilderness edition for the Outback, Forester, and Crosstrek models, though the automaker could be looking to expand the lineup to its other SUVs soon. The Wilderness versions each have higher ground clearance, knobbier tires, improved approach and departure angles, and lots of extra body cladding.
Unfortunately, until Subaru comes out with some real confirmations, we’re left to our imagination. We’re picturing a lifted BRZ Hightrail concept car complete with 35-inch studded tires and underbody protection sitting center stage at SEMA. It’s also possible that Subaru is gearing up to add a new off-road-oriented trim level to its car lineup. We could be seeing a hypothetical new WRX Uncharted trim at campsites around the Midwest before too long.
There’s also the possibility that the automaker is planning ahead for future battery-electric and plug-in-hybrid models. Despite Subaru’s granola-munchin’ identity, there’s currently no off-road version of the electric Solterra. For now, though, we’ll have to stick to the Wilderness-editions Subaru currently has on offer.
